highly individual
part, of a
conurbation
having a total
population of
nearly 625,000
which in 1974
became part of
Cleveland.
Although the
town is within
an industrial
area it is in easy
reach of some
of the most
beautiful areas
in Britain.
From a tiny
hamlet
Thornaby
has grown
until today
the
population is
approx
24,200 and
the town has
an area of
1,993
acres.The
total number
of
households
exceeds
10,000.
The area where it all
began , this tiny hamlet
clustered around the
village green which
boasted a population of
149 people in 1811.The
green was used by local
people and farmers for
their livestock.The
numerous ponds never
seemed to dry up and
were connected by a
stream with footbridges
over.
